This diary is a desperate plea for help. I’ve been a member of the DKos club for a long time, mostly reading, sometimes bitching and complaining, but I am officially desperate for help.
The fucking pathetic morons of the Republican Party in West Virginia have spewed forth two Koch (pronounced “cock”) / Heritage Foundation travesties of bills before the House.
The first is HB 2335. This is the right’s so-called “academic freedom” bill which is anything but. In essence, it allows any student or employee to say the word “Trump” and then argue discrimination.
The Orwellian double-speak is at the end.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to promote intellectual diversity and academic freedom ininstitutions of higher education. The bill prohibits employment decisions concerning facultymembers from being based solely on political or religious beliefs. The bill requires alltenure, search and hiring committee deliberations to be recorded and made available tothe appropriate constituted authorities. The bill prohibits students from being graded onpolitical or religious beliefs. The bill requires academic disciplines to welcome a diversityof approaches to unsettled questions and to provide dissenting viewpoints. The billprovides that the uncertainty and unsettled character of all human knowledge must berespected. The bill provides that the obstruction of campus speakers or the civil exchangeof ideas may not be tolerated.
This abomination is being read into the House the same or almost same day a “guns for everyone, everywhere, anytime” bill from the same rotten crouch of the Republican Party will be read.
Again, Orwellian, or in this case fucking crazy nut job speak, is again at the end.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to permit the carrying of concealed weapons on thecampus of a state institution of higher education by individuals who have been issued statelicenses to carry concealed deadly weapons pursuant to W. Va. Code, §61-7-4.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the reading of the two bills on or near the same time is nothing less than partisan political violence against academia in West Virginia. Please know that the threat of violence constitutes violence. These two bills are using right-wing double-speak to put professors on notice that if they don’t bow to the Republican crazy, guns will be nearby.
All this being said, please fucking help us! Does anyone have experience fighting this right wing bullshit? I know Dems were wiped out at state level, but does anyone have thoughts from actually fighting such crazy?
Desperate, In West Virginia.
