Joe Manchin Said Constituent Complained Of 'Crackhead Daughter' Wasting Child Tax Credit
The senator's dislike of the child tax credit helped tank the entire Build Back Better Act.
Manchin’s concern about the benefits may stem from complaints he heard from constituents, including a grandmother who he said complained to the senator’s office that her daughter wasn’t using the monthly payments to support her child.
JoAnna Vance, a mother of three from Beckley, West Virginia, is a recovery fellow with the American Friends Service Committee’s West Virginia Economic Justice Project. She attended a meeting with about a dozen other advocates at Manchin’s Charleston office in September, where they pressed the senator to support the child tax credit.
Vance, 32, said the senator pushed back on the benefits, which have paid parents as much as $300 per child each month since July.
“He said he’s gotten phone calls from one grandmother specifically talking about her crackhead daughter ― he used the word crackhead three times ― talking about her crackhead daughter running around using the child tax credit to buy drugs and get high instead of it going where it needs to go,” Vance told HuffPost.

Let me say that I do not believe Joe Manchin. And my disbelief is not just based upon Manchin’s lies and lack of integrity that he has demonstrated. When you have other politicians saying you have no integrity and negotiated in bad faith, you are one hell of a liar.
No, I base this upon years of listening to some of the worst politicians claim such stories since the days of Reagan.
Reagan talked about welfare queens, and people on food stamps buying steak, especially some black “young bucks.” And I think that welfare queen drove a Cadillac. It was only many decades later when historian Rick Perlstein wrote that Reagan lied his ass off. The Media did a shit job of fact checking Reagan.
Then, I recall U.S. Senator Trent Lott of MS stating that he heard from from constituents at a townhall say that the number one issue for them was “death taxes.” That is code for the inheritence tax. It was a tried and true method to convince everyone that the government was bankrupting small family farmers with inheritance taxes.
The Media did fact check that claim, and they could find no one who brought up the “death tax.”
And I remember Senator Mitch McConnell stating that all he heard from his constituents was ripping up Obamacare. It was such a huge burden to all his constituents! Too bad I was one of the constituents who tried to reach McConnell over his attempt to repeal the ACA under Trump. I sent emails. I called his office. I even went down to his local office.
They had NO RECORD of any of my communications. I got no further than the outer office where a young staffer took my information. I never saw hide nor hair of anyone of important.
So call me more than skeptical of Joe Manchin’s assertion about a grandmother calling her daughter a crackhead who was using the child tax credit for drugs.
And if it was true, one grandmother in WV determines whether or not their is a child tax credit?
What about the other people who said that the child tax credit helped them feed their kids? They don’t count? No. This is a bullshit story told by Manchin to “justify” his hatred and acts of cruelty toward anyone who doesn’t drive a Maserati or own a yacht.
