West Virginia Republicans Did Not Listen To Joe Machin. Possible Harbinger of Electoral Doom?

So the all powerful Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia cannot persuade Republican voters to vote for a man he endorsed.  Who’d have thunk it?  The Media loves to talk to Manchin about his actions to hamstring President Joe Biden and Democrats and how popular Machin is with Republican voters.  Yet those same Republican voters went with the candidate who voted against the “bipartisan” infrastructure bill that Manchin took all the credit for. Instead, Republicans voted against their economic self interests out of fealty to Donald Trump and “culture wars.”  I have this nagging feeling that this does not bode well for Manchin’s electoral chances in 2024.

It’s just one primary contest, but let me explain.

Yes, both Mooney and McKinley were incumbents running in the same district.  This is because WV is losing population because it sucks there.  Let’s be honest.  I am not sure how anyone who is an incumbent in WV can run on “Reelect me because we are still going down the shitter.”

Anyway, we had Mckinley who is a civil engineer talking about bringing infrastructure money to WV.  He was proud of his vote for the infrastructure bill.  And in any sane, rational world, voters in a state with some of the worst infrastructure in the nation should have stopped to say to themselves, “Yeah, this is might bring some jobs to WV.”

But voting for the infrastucture bill was anathema to Donald Trump.  It is something Biden accomplished that Trump NEVER did.  And if that were not bad enough, McKinley voted to have the House form the Jan 6th Committee!  This was a MORTAL SIN by McKinley.

And Mooney really wanted to keep his current gig, so he gladly attacked McKinley over these issues and sold his soul to Trump.  And Trump was glad to take Mooney’s soul, however shriveled it may be.  The cult leader told his followers in WV to vote for Mooney.

And McKinley came in with approximately 36% of the vote.  The rest voted for Mooney or the other candidate, whose name escapes me at this time.  Therefore, Trumpism is alive and well in WV.

Now, voters may love Joe Manchin for the present because he fucks Democrats over, especially progressives.  And we all know how Republican voters hate Democrats.  And Manchin is doing a great job of owning the libs.  Why he just voted against codifying Roe.

But what happens when one of the many Republican politicians in WV run against Manchin in 2024?  What will Republican voters do when they have a choice between a real Republican and a corrupt conservative DINO?  Just a reminder.  Manchin voted to impeach Trump TWICE!

Trump is not ever going to forgive Manchin for that super dooper mortal sin, and when Trump is running in 2024 and back on Twitter, the voters in WV will be reminded of Manchin’s treachery against the Orange God Emperor.  Do I think that Manchin has calculated this scenario for 2024?  To be honest, I bet he hasn’t.

Manchin is egomaniacal and high on the power he currently wields in D.C.  Manchin has scaled the heights, and he is king of the mountain, at least when it comes to saying, “NO” to any bills he doesn’t like.  Manchin has contempt for his voters, and I bet Machin thinks he will simply lie his way to reelection.

I’ve seen this tactic used by Moscow Mitch.

But Moscow Mitch is a Republican who represents a redstate.  I’ve seen plenty a conservative Democrat be turned out by voters for the REAL deal of Republican extremism.  And I think this latest result from WV bodes ill for Joe Manchin.
