February is Black History Month

Today is

Abraham Lincoln's Birthday

National Plum Pudding Day

About 25% of Cowboys were Black, and benefited from what was known as "Range Equality".  One of the first Black Deputy US Marshals, Bass Reeves, is believed by some historians, to be the inspiration for the Lone Ranger.

1) The Porter Ranch Aliso Canyon gas leak has finally been stopped, after 16 weeks. They still have to fill it with concrete, but they plan to do that immediately. It has cost SoCal Gas $300M so far, and there are 67 lawsuits pending.

2) via AP

Ted Cruz's Mobile App, "Cruz Crew" silently siphons information from users' phones, including their physical movements and Personal Contact Information.

The campaign then feeds this information into a database, using it to build sophisticated psychological profiles on voters.

61,000 devices currently have "Cruz Crew" installed.

3) The largest peace group in the United States has endorsed Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton.

Peace Action PAC, the 700,000 member strong, political action committee of Peace Action announced on its blog that 85% of their membership had voted in support of Sanders.

4) 35 Billion Plastic Bottles are dumped in American landfills every year.

5) Bernie Sanders' received his official Secret Service Code Name: "Intrepid". Obama's is "Renegade", while Trump's is "Mogul".

6) Gloria Steinem Campaigned For Bernie Sanders in 1996, Calling Him An ‘Honorary Woman’ .

“I’m only here today to make Bernie Sanders an honorary woman,” Steinem said at a Sanders re-election campaign event in Burlington, Vt. on Oct. 21, 1996.

Steinem then praised Sanders for his role in advancing the progressive movement in the country.

“I went back to public opinion polls from the last 35 years and though about 1/3 of the country has usually been conservative to ultra right-wing, about 2/3s has been centrist to progressive, and if anything that progressive movement thanks to you and thanks to people like Bernie has increased,” Steinem said.

7) 70% of the world's population (5.4 Billion people) will have cell phones by 2020. That's more than double the expected number of people who will have running water by the same date.

8) In response to a proposed WV law to Drug Test Welfare Applicants, state House Delegate, Shawn Fluharty, has introduced legislation to Drug Test state lawmakers.  Those who failed would not be able to vote or get paid.

9) When Senator Obama was running in the 2008 Primary, the DNC banned Federal Lobbyists from donating to Democratic candidates.

Now, in 2016, there are two Democratic Candidates. One takes lobbyist’s donations and one does not.

Today, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chairwoman of the DNC (Democratic National Committee), and Hillary Clinton's 2008 Campaign Manager, lifted the restrictions on Federal Lobbyists.

Federal Lobbyists are now free to donate to Hillary’s campaign.  They will only be donating to Hillary’s campaign, you see, because Bernie doesn’t take donations from lobbyists.

Is this professional malpractice on the part of Schultz?  Will anyone in the media even call her out?  I doubt it.  Sadly, I fear that they all would prefer Hillary to win.

Why would they want their gravy train to end now?  They already gave up their journalistic integrity a long time ago.

10) Albert Einstein won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1921 for his experiments with solar power and photovoltaics.

11) Elizabeth Warren called on the CDC to consider the use of Medical Marijuana in place of opioids traditionally prescribed for pain relief.

Considering that Prescription Drugs have risen to become our #1 killer, and there are no recorded deaths from marijuana, that might be a good idea.

Perhaps Bernie should add Legalization to his platform. Then, when people ask him how he  plans to pay for his programs, he can just say, "Colorado, baby!  They are cleaning up!  If we legalize Cannabis we can tax it, and use the money to fund education, and other programs.  And as an added bonus, students will be actively involved, contributing to their own education!"

Feeling a bit hefty since Super Bowl Sunday? There could be a reason why.  It might take a bit more exercise than you thought to work off what you gained on that one day.

Here's some Snacks with football references to give you an idea:

SNACK ONE: TWO SLICES OF DOMINO’S PIZZA, ULTIMATE PEPPERONI HAND TOSSED CRUST, LARGE (14 INCH) = RUNNING 109 FOOTBALL FIELDS

Yes, it’s 720 calories, and you would have to run 109 football fields (100 yards each) at an average speed of 5 mph. The average walking pace is approximately 3 mph.

Fit Tip: Fit Tip: Get thin crust pizza with veggies and eat it for lunch, not just as a half-time snack.

SNACK TWO:  A HANDFUL OF PEANUTS (1 OUNCE) = COACHING FOOTBALL FOR 35 MINUTES

A handful, or about 1ounce (30 peanuts), is 166 calories.

Fit Tip: Nuts are healthy. Peanuts are packed with nutrients, including vitamin E, folate, fiber, niacin and magnesium. One of the best things about peanuts is that they contain a large amount of protein, and protein helps to keep you feeling full longer. But they’re also very high in calories. Don’t keep a huge bowl in front of you. And try to eat one at a time; don’t shove a handful at a time in your mouth.

SNACK THREE:  ONE POTATO CHIP WITH FRENCH ONION DIP = 30 MINUTES OF SINGING ALONG TO COLDPLAY AND BEYONCÉ DURING THE HALFTIME SHOW

Each chip is 10.5 calories, and every dip of dip is 60 calories.

Fit Tip: Try popped or baked-style chips, and make your dip with low-fat mayo or non-fat yogurt.

SNACK FOUR:  TWO KFC ORIGINAL RECIPE CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS = DOING “THE WAVE” 1,561 TIMES

That’s a lot of waves!! Deep-fried chicken is very high in calories. Believe it or not, the extra crispy has fewer calories. Two KFC drumsticks have 320 calories.

Fit Tip: Coat skinless chicken with whole-grain bread crumbs and bake it.

SNACK FIVE:  TWO BOTTLES OF BUDWEISER BEER = 267 TOUCHDOWN DANCES IN THE END ZONE

Beer and football just go together, but keep in mind, each beer is 145 calories.

Fit Tip: Planning to have a few bottles? Best bet is to try sampling a few very light beers before the game to see which ones you prefer.

SNACK SIX:  FIVE TORTILLA Chips TOPPED WITH SEVEN-LAYER DIP = 60 MINUTES PERFORMING IN A MARCHING BAND

This is a serious dip that includes refried beans, olives, guacamole, sour cream and cheese, and it costs about 30 calories per dip (tablespoon) with an additional 70 calories for five restaurant-style chips. The grand total is 280 calories.

Fit Tip: If you make the dip yourself, try using low-fat cheese and sour cream and black beans, not refried. Or you could always switch to salsa: 2 tablespoons have only about 15 calories. Also, go for light or baked chips instead of fried.

SNACK SEVEN:  Just a few Nachos = 72 minutes OF PLAYING PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL

According to The Wall Street Journal, there are only about 11 minutes of actual ball-playing in a football game. That means you need to play almost seven games of professional football to burn off the nachos. Each restaurant-style chip has about 14 calories. Now add cheese, beans, ground beef and peppers. Just six nachos will cost approximately 569 calories not to mention the sour cream and guacamole for another 200 calories.

*NOTE* - Please understand that I do not claim to be a “journalist”.  I am only passing on bits of information, which others have researched, that drift through my awareness, on any given day.  I watch, read and listen to any number of different news and entertainment sources, and it’s more than anyone could possibly intake and retain in a day, so I created this little daily “cheat sheet” for myself, so that I could remember all these oddball facts.  Then I decided to share these tidbits, and thus was born the Daily TILT.  I do this for fun.  I hope you enjoy it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * **NOTE: I purposely do not include links or photos in the TILT. The idea is to not have one story be highlighted above all the others. And sometimes links can be stressful. I, myself, sometimes get conflicted when presented with too many choices, so I thought I'd save you the trouble of having to make any of those types of decisions for a few minutes, while you read the Photo and Link-Free TILT! I encourage you to further research any story that interests you, though.  They are easy to Google.
