Vote splitting in WV: 32% polling difference between Governor and President

I just got an email from the Justice campaign highlighting this poll. Justice has had a consistent lead all year. There are two minor party candidates with some support: Pritt (Mountain) 8% and Moran (Libertarian) 5%. The Mountain Party is on the Green Party end of the political spectrum. Charlotte Pritt is a former Democratic nominee for Governor and is not goofball like Jill Stein, although she obviously has no chance to win.

From the same pollster two days earlier: Trump 49, Clinton 31, Johnson 10, Stein 4. So at least a third of the voters are planning to split their ticket.

Some more bipolar stuff from the earlier poll:

Obama approval 32/65

Senator Joe Manchin (D) approval 50/27

Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R) approval 47/27

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin (D) approval 53/25

In the second poll, 94% are worried about the state’s economy. Presumably the other 6% was too high to understand the question. They must blame Obama for this, since it is apparently not the fault of our state leaders for failing to diversify out of coal.

It is possible that Trump’s call for deportation of undocumented aliens is interacting with the opioid epidemic. AFAIK  there are not many immigrants taking jobs away from WV workers- we have no shortage of people willing to do nasty work for low wages. So I don’t think that most people are threatened by Hispanics moving in and putting people out of work. However, the heroin suppliers are mostly Mexican cartels

Don’t ask me to make sense of any of this. I just live here.
