Yet another state Senate passes legislation that pretends to care about girls' sports

Just a few months into 2021, we’re already facing a pile of anti-trans legislation from around the nation. Some bills focus on making it harder, if not impossible, for transgender people of all ages to update their birth certificates. Others are trying to bar physicians from providing life-saving, gender-affirming medical care to transgender youth. And, as we continue to cover, countless states are pushing bad faith sports bills that aim to keep transgender girls and women out of girls’ sports. The latest such example comes to us from West Virginia.

On Thursday, West Virginia state senators approved HB 3293 by a vote of 18-15, as reported by CNN. In March, the Republican-ruled House of Delegates in the state passed a different version of the bill with sweeping approval at a 78-20 vote. From here, the amended and approved legislation heads back to the House. What are the details and how does this compare to bills around the nation?
